Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange info between a hosting server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of controlling a web hosting account. The commands which can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the alternatives are limited since you won't have root access to the web server, so you can just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

If the shared hosting package that you’ve selected during the signup process comes with SSH access as standard, you will be able to activate this function with a mouse click in your Hepsia CP. If you've chosen a different package, the SSH access function may be added through the Upgrades menu and it shall become available immediately. The information that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same location and you shall be able to modify it at any time. All commands that are allowed are listed inside the Help articles which we've prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax which you must use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you shall be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to get SSH access to it with a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this feature by default, you will be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. After you go to the SSH section, you will discover the info you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, when required. These login credentials are also needed if you would like to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we offer. A thorough list of the commands that you can execute shall offer you a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting

If you buy a new virtual private server from our company, it'll come with full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to manage everything via an SSH console. The function is provided as standard with all packages, so you won't need to enable or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server shall be set up immediately after you order it and as soon as you get the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect via the server’s primary IP address and start working. Because the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions regarding the commands that you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you may install and run any app which can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software running on it.
